I believe this was a phishing attempt. This woman called to tell me they have received some notifications of a security breach on my PC. I told her I don't have a PC, I have a Mac. She was not able to explain herself, and instead was repeating herself about how they had some alerts for my computer. I asked her how is it possible that you have all this information about my computer, but you didn't know what kind of computer I had until I told you. Don't give any personal information!

I received a call from a man with a heavy foreign accent, and was told I had an issue with my windows computer. When I told the man I used Mac, he transferred me to someone else who also had a foreign accent. This man proceeded to walk me through several scare tactics. First, he had me run the `netstat` command in Terminal to show me that several active connections were established to my machine. Then he showed me that my firewall was off in system preferences, and claimed that my computer was being attacked because my firewall was off. Fortunately, I work in technology and know that neither of these things are abnormal. Then he tried to get me to go to a website under the screenconnect.com domain which would have set up remote access to my machine. I refused to visit the website he gave me. He ended the call when I pretended that my battery died.

Caller had a heavy Indian(Asian) accent. Stated he was a representative of the “Certified Technical Department” and that his service detected an error with my Microsoft program. As soon as he was told that he was speaking to an owner of a MAC, he hung up the phone.
